BAXTER, Charles Ernest, life insurance; born, Gorham Township, Fulton Co., Ohio, Mar. 18, 1863; son of Daniel Crowley and Emily Marie (Shepardson) Baxter; the Baxters came to America from north of Ireland in 1787 and Shepardsons from Scotland; educated Oberlin College, Ohio, 1879-81; Williams College, Mass., 1881-83; married, Nov. 25, 1886, Dora Gay Belcher, of Charlotte, Mich.; two children: Marie Ashley (Mrs. Ralph B. Textor, of Cleveland) and Kenneth Stuart. Engaged as newspaper reporter and editor for several years; publisher of Charlotte (Mich.) Republican, 1885-92; entered insurance business and was with Manhattan Life Insurance Co. as general agent, 1896-1906; agency manager with Mutual Benefit Insurance Co. of New Jersey, 1906-11; member firm of Morphy & Baxter, general agents Berkshire Life Insurance Co., of Pittsfield, Mass., since 1911. Served as secretary to U. S. Senator Patton, assistant secretary Michigan State Senate, and deputy state treasurer, also as secretary League of Republican Clubs, Mich., and secretary Republican State Committee. Republican. Congregationalist. Member Detroit Life Underwriters' Association, Detroit Board of Commerce, Sons of American Revolution, Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Past Master Corinthian Lodge No. 241, F. & A. M. Takes active interest in public and political matters. Office: 1419-1422 Majestic Bldg. Residence: 2989 E. Grand Boul.
