BARTHEL, Oliver Edward, mechanical engineer; born, Detroit, Oct. 3, 1877; son of Albert Edward and Elise (Harter) Barthel; edncated Detroit public schools and Detroit Business University; married, May 18, 1906. In employ of Chas. B. King, constructor of gasoline marine engines and automobile, 1895-1901; designer, Henry Ford, 1901-2; chief engineer and designer, Barthel Motor Co., 1902-4; designer experimental department, Ford Motor Co., 1904, Olds Motor Works, 1904-5; consulting engineer since 1905. Has designed many gasoline motors, among them the Waterman Outboard Marine Motor, the Scripps Motor, etc. Republican. Episcopalian. Member Society of Automobile Engineers, Detroit Engineering Society. Clubs: Detroit Yacht, Wolverine Automobile, Detroit Motor Boat. Recreations: water sports, automobiling, gardening. Office: 302 Moffat Bldg. Residence: 161 Holbrook Ave.
