BARBOUR, George Harrison, 1st vice president and general manager Michigan Stove Co.; born, Collinsvile, Conn., June 26, 1843; son of Samuel Thompson and Phoebe (Beckwith) Barbour; educated in public schools of Connecticut; married at Collinsville, June 26, 1869, Katherine, daughter of William H. and Susan R. Hawley, of Collinsville. Began active career, 1861, in partnership with his father (later Goodman & Barbour), dry goods, groceries, etc., Collinsville; sold business and located in Detroit, July, 1872; invested in Michigan Stove Co., and was secretary of the company, 1872-86; 1st vice president and general manager since 1886. President The Michigan Copper & Brass Co., Ireland & Matthews Manufacturing Co.; vice president Dime Savings Bank; director People's Savings Bank, Michigan Fire and Marine Insurance Co., Detroit Museum of Art. Member Chamber of Commerce (1st president), National Stove Manufacturers' Association (president, 188890). Member National Commission Columbian Exposition, 1893. President Detroit City Council, 1888. Democrat. Clubs: Detroit, Country, Fellowcraft. Recreations: trout fishing and horses. Office: 1022 Jefferson Ave. Residence: 134 Lafayette Boul., Detroit. Summer Residence: Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.
