BAGLEY, John Newbury, tobacco manufacturer; born, Detroit, Sept. 8, 1860; son of ex Governor John J. and Frances E. (Newbury) Bagley; educated in public schools of Detroit; married, at Grand Haven, Mich., Mar. 11, 1884, Esther P. Cutler; three children: Frances Cutler (Mrs. William H. Wallace, Jr., of Rye, N. Y.), John D., Phillip Newbury. Began active career, 1880, in tobacco manufactory established by his father, was elected president of the company, 1893, and still continues. President John J. Bagley & Co., established, 1853; chairman board of directors Bagley Land Co., Ltd.; director Security Trust Co. Republican. Unitarian (trustee of church). Member Sons of American Revolution, Society of Colonial Wars. Clubs: Yondotega, Detroit, Witenagemote, Country, Detroit float. Recreations: golf and fishing. Office: 483 Warren Ave. E. Residence: 919 Jefferson Ave.
