AUSTIN, Frederic George, manufacturer; born, Detroit, Aug. 1, 1867; son of Edmund and Anne (Spurway) Austin; both natives of England; educated in public schools of Detroit; married, at Lowell, Mass., Feb. 27, 1901, Elizabeth Smith; three children: Dorothy, Elizabeth and Anne. Began active career as assistant bookkeeper in retail hardware store of James L. Fisher, 1883; bookkeeper Merchants and Manufacturers National Bank, 1886-87; then became connected with David Whitney, Jr., in his lumber, transportation and financial interests; after death of Mr. Whitney, 1900, joined with heirs in organizing the Whitney Realty Co., Ltd., of which has since been general manager, treasurer and director; has been identified with Standard. Brass Works since 1905, first as secretary and since 1906 as president. Republican. Unitarian. Clubs: Detroit Athletic, Yondotega, Detroit, Country, Detroit Boat. Was secretary Detroit Athletic Club, 1889-92. Recreations: golf and fishing. Office: 1724 Ford Bldg. Residence: 1435 Champlain St.
