JOHN STUMP was born at Wuertemberg, Germany, Jan. 1, 1803, the son of John and Hannah Stump. He came to New
York in 1816, and lived there and in Philadelphia until 1834, when he settled on section 18. of Erie. He was married
at Tremainsville, Ohio, Nov. 20, 1834, to Mirilda, daughter of Peter and Carrie (Newman) Lefford, who is the mother
of eleven children, of whom four boys and one girl are living. Three of the boys, George, John and James, were
in the Union army during the war, and Christian enlisted but was not accepted. Mr. Stump has always been a Democrat.
He was brought up a member of the Lutheran Church, but of late years has been a member of the Presbyterian.
