Wm. H. Bennett was born in Woodbury, Conn., Sept. 20, 1841, and is a son of John S. Bennett. He came with his
parents to Grand Rapids in 1856. In 1886 he began farming in Plainfield tp. He was married Dec. 25, 1865, to Miss
Mary J. Hutchings, by whom he has one child, Frederick George. Mr. Bennett came to Algoma in 1870, where he now
resides, on sec. 34, on a farm of 80 acres. He served in the late war in Co. A, 1st Mich. Vol Inf., for four years,
and participated in the battles of Chickamauga, Peninsula, Wilderness, Gettysburg, Five Forks, Petersburg, Chancellorsville,
at the surrender of Lee, and others - in all, 32 engagements.
