Frederick Benham (deceased) was born in Riga, Monroe Co., N. Y., Jan. 2, 1811. In 1831 he came to Washtenaw county, and in 1847 to Cannon tp., Kent Co. He lived there till 1850, and removed to the present homestead on sec. 9 of Courtland, where he died, July 21, 1861. He was married Jan. 2, 1831, to Laurane Wheelock, daughter of Reu and Rosanna Wheelock, born in Genesee Co., N. Y, Sept. 1, 1814. Of their eight children five are living, viz.;. Fernando, Frederick S., Francis M., Elizabeth (wife of Oscar Stout), and Ohas. W. Mrs. Benham is a member of the M. E. Church.
