Biography of Capt. Orlando J. Tripp

Tripp, Capt. Orlando J., son of Daniel and Eliza (Davis) Tripp, was born in the town of Westport, Bristol county, Mass., October 7, 1839. He was educated in the public schools of that town and at an early age went to sea in a whale ship as an ordinary seaman and was advanced from time to time until he took command of a ship, in which capacity he acted for a period of about ten years, and at the end of this service returned home, abandoned the sea and became actively engaged in agriculture, which he still carries on. January, 1866, Orlando J. Tripp married Lydia A., daughter of Edmund and Lydia (Gifford) Kirby, and they have one son, Edgar C., who is engaged in the grocery business in New Bedford.
