Thompson, John R., is a native of Scotland, and was born August 14, 1842. After receiving a common school education he was apprenticed to the shoemaker's trade, in which he was engaged until 1865. when he came to America and located in New Bedford. Here he secured employment in a cotton rope factory, where he remained for fourteen years. He then bought a farm in Rochester, where he resided for eight years, when he bought his present farm in Acushnet. August 16, 1870, he married Elizabeth, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Young) Daily, and they have two children: John R., jr., and James. Mr. Thompson is a member Trinity Trintarian Church of New Bedford and the A. P. A.
