Thayer, John A., was born in the town of Bellingham, October 11 1860, a son of John J. and Marjorie (Hunter) Thaver. His father was a native of Taunton, where the early members of the family settled in 1637. John A. Thayer was educated in the public schools and in 1890 established the firm of Bodman & Thayer, which in 1891 was merged into the John A. Thayer & Co., and at the present time is carrying the leading line of pianos, organs, sewing machines, musical instruments, pictures and picture frames in Attleb3rough. In 1890 Mr. Thaver married Mary E., daughter of A. M. Briggs, and they have two children: Earl A., and M. Irene. Mr. Thayer has been a member of the town Republican committee for seven years, being chairman for two years, and has held many other offices. He is now postmaster of Attleborough, appointed August 1, 1898, for four years. He was president of Co. C Association, a permanent Republican Club of 250 members, composed largely of manufacturers and merchants of the town.
