Biography of John Ryley

Ryley, John, superintendent of public buildings of Fall River, was born in Bolton, England, October 28, 1838 He was educated in private schools in his native city and then was apprenticed to learn the trade of joiner and carpenter. After completing his apprenticeship of three years he followed his trade and also superintended the erection of numerous buildings. In 1872 he came to America and located at Fall River, where he successfully followed the occupation of carpenter and contractor. In 1888 Mr. Ryley was appointed superintendent of public buildings of Fall River and has since held the position by successive reappointment. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and other fraternal and benevolent societies.
