Harding, David E., was born in Mansfield, May 26, 1826, a son of Alfred Harding and grandson of David Harding,
who settled in Mansfield about 1775. Alfred Harding married Eliza, daughter of Obediah Pierce, and through life
was identified as a farmer. David E. Harding was educated in the common schools and about 1850 entered the employ
of John Rogers. dealer in straw goods, and later the firm became Rogers, Corney & Co., Mr. Harding being the
company. In 1882 he organized the firm of S. W. Card & Co., which in 1893 was incorporated as The Card Manufacturing
Company. Mr. Harding married, in 1843, Frances E. Rogers, and they have three daughters: Eva L., Mabel F. and Florence.
Mr. Harding served as a member of the Legislature in 1875; president of the Cooperative Bank and takes an active
interest in educational and religious matters.
