Jeremiah Steel was born in Holmes county, O., Sept. 6, 1834. His parents, Elias and Elizabeth Steel, were natives
of Pennsylvania; he was reared on a farm and educated in the Ohio Berlin Academy; came to this county in 1864,
and followed farming until the year 1872, when he purchased an interest in his father's sawmill; he continued in
that business till 1877, when his father died, and by the division of the property the mill fell into his possession;
he still keeps it in operation. In 1867 he married Miss Catharine A. Gearhart, daughter of Henry and Kasia Gearhart,
and they have had 7 children, of whom 4 are now living, viz.: Franklin E., Henry E., Joseph and Elmira. Mr. S.
owns a farm of 380 acres.
