John A. Long, deceased,-was born in Tennessee, Nov. 14, 1813; was reared on a farm, and in November, 1841, he
came to this county, and settled in Liberty tp. He was married Jan. 3, 1839, to Miss Elizabeth Troxell, daughter
of Jacob and Catharine Troxell; 9 of their children are living; viz.: Jacob, Sarah C. (now Mrs. Jacob Jemison),
Lucinda (now Mrs. Adam Longacre), George M., William, Francis M., Mary A. (now Mrs. Milton White), Margaret E.,
Benjamin A., Jonathan (dec.) and Thomas G. (dec.). Mr. Long followed the life of the honest farmer up to the time
of his death, which occurred June 27, 1874. He had been a member of the German Baptist Church for fifteen years,
and during this time he led a life of fidelity and uprightness, and left the earth respected by all and at enmity
with none.
