JOHN RATCLIFFE, son of Jesse and Elizabeth Ratcliffe, was born in Clinton County, Ohio, and when quite young came with his parents to Howard County, and settled south of Russiaville, and a few months later located on the place where his father now lives; he worked hard in clearing the farm from the forest, and gained an excellent education in the common schools; he taught school in Howard County for several winters, but has followed the occupation of farming the most of his life. Mr. Ratcliffe has always been a member of the Friends' Society and the Republican party. Rachel (Lamb) Ratcliffe, his wife, is a daughter of Anderson and Polly Lamb, of Miami County, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Ratcliffe have one child. They live on a fine farm south of West Middleton, Howard County, and Mr. Ratcliffe has a fourth interest in the West Middleton Flouring Mills.
