Vernant Snell was born in Clermont County, Ohio, Feb. 13, 1843, and is a son of Daniel and Jane Snell, the father
also a native of Clermont County, born March 15, 1809, and the mother born Oct. 30, 1806. When he was nine years
old lie came to La Salle County, Ill., with his parents, six brothers and two sisters, his father first locating
on the farm in Deer Park Township where his widow now resides and where he died May 21, 1880. Our subject began
farming for himself on a farm in this township which he rented from his father. He bought a farm in Irc.quois County,
Ill., in 1867, where lie was engaged in agricultural pursuits till 1875, when lie sold his land and bought his
present farm in this township. He has met with success in his farming pursuits, and has at present 337 acres of
good land located on sections 13, 12; 25 and 35, all in Deer Park Township. Jan. 25, 1S65, he was married to Mary
A. Porter, born in Tazewell County, Ill., April 20, 1849, a daughter of Harrison and Ellen (Akers) Porter. She
came with her parents to this county in 1857 where her mother died in the fall of 1861, aged forty years. Her father
is still living in this township. To Mr. and Mrs. Snell have been born five children - Cora J., born Jan. 11, 1870;
Ralph L., born Aug. 7, 1873; Daisy E., born March 25, 1877; Charles P., born May 16, 1867, died Sept. 7, 1867,
and Irene, born Aug. 25, 1871, died Sept. 9, 1871. In politics Mr. Snell is a Republican.
