Byron D. Snell was born Jan. 20, 1837, and in 1852 came from Williamsburg, Clermont Co., Ohio, with his parents,
Daniel M. and Jane (Morehead) Snell, his father settling on the farm which is now owned and occupied by our subject.
He was reared a farmer and has always followed that avocation, in which he has been very successful, and is now
the owner of 350 acres of land on sections 4 and 5, Deer Park Township. In politics Mr. Snell is a Democrat. His
grandfather was of German descent and lived to be 106 old, and he had a brother who reached the age of 107 years.
Our subject's father was born in Williamsburg, Ohio, March 12, 1809, where he was reared. and educated. He came
to La Salle County in 1852 and settled on the farm where he resided till his death in May, 1880. The mother was
born in Pennsylvania in 1806, and a few years later moved to Ohio, where she lived till her marriage. She is of
Irish descent. She is still living on the old homestead with her son Byron. They had a family of nine children
- Amrau, who died in 1867, aged about forty years; Hernandes died in 1855, aged about twenty years; Vernal, killed
in a train wreck at East Hannibal, Mo., was forty two years old, and left a widow and three children now living
in Kansas; Arphad, living at Tice Station, Ill.; Vernant, a farmer of Deer Park Township; Daniel, also a farmer
of this township; Philip died in this township in August, 1884, leaving a widow and two children; Missouri, wife
of James Riggs, a farmer of Deer Park Township, and Byron D., whose name heads this sketch.
