Harrison Porter came to La Salle County in October, 1856, and after renting land here for a year he bought his present farm where he has since resided. His farm is located in section 13 and contains 613 acres of land, and he also owns fifteen acres on section 14. He was born June 10, 1820, near Ripley, Brown Co., Ohio, and is a son of Isaac and Ann (Wilson) Porter, the father born March 17, 1760, and dying in the fall of 1840, and the mother born May 20, 1774, dying in March, 1861. Our subject's grandfather came from Ireland about 130 years ago and settled in Pennsylvania. His mother's ancestors were also Irish, coming to America and locating near the Ssquehanna River in Pennsylvania a few years after the Porter family. Harrison Porter was married Nov. 14, 1843, in Brown County, Ohio, to Ellen Acres. born near Ripley, Sept. 29, 1821, a daughter of Cyrus and Mary (Bayne) Acres, who settled in Tazewell County, Ill., in 1856. To this union were born seven children - Cyrus A., born Oct. 13, 1845; Isaac B., March 3, 1817; Mary A., April 20, 1849; Sarah L., Jan. 3, 1851; Eliza J., Oct. 12, 1852; Ellen M.. Dec. 14, 1854, and one who died in infancy. Mrs. Porter died Dec. 12, 1861, on the old homestead, and he was again married June 19, 1S62, to Mary J. Richmond, a daughter of John and Nancy (Rains) Richmond, both now deceased, the father dying in September, 1863, and the mother at the age of fifty-two years. One son blessed this marriage, John R., born March 12, 1863, who was married Feb. 25, 1885, to Nellie E. Lathrop Mr. Porter in politics affiliates with the Republican party. He and his wife are members of the Methodist church.
