Timothy R. Johns has been a resident of this county since March. 1854, when he settled on his present farm.
His father had come to this county in the summer of 1853, and purchased the farm above mentioned when he returned
to his family in Pennsylvania. Our subject then bought the farm from his father, and in the spring of 1855 his
parents moved here and settled on the Lincoln farm on section 2, Deer Park Township. where the father died in 1858.
Timothy B. has thirty acres on section 25, in South Ottawa Township, and the farm where he resides, on section
1, contains eighty acres of choice land. He is a native of Greene County, Pa., born June 2, 1825, a son of Thomas
and Mary (Ross) Johns, both natives of Greene County, the father born Aug. 31, 1795, and the mother May 3, 1804.
He was reared and educated in the common schools of his native county, remaining at home till he came to La Salle
County. He was married Sept. 26, 1850, to Maria Barnes, a native of Greene County, Pa., and a daughter of Jacob
Barnes. His wife died June 2, 1865. leaving six children - Mary L., wife of Charles H. Leach, of Chicago; Marie
E., wife of Frank Bradford, living in Fayette County, Pa.; Thomas S., a farmer of Edwards County, Kas.; Samantlia
A., wife of Albert Thacker, of Chicago; Cordelia, at home, and Fannie E., wife of Charles Davidson, of Fayette
County, Pa. In politics Mr. Johns is a Democrat. He was elected Supervisor in 1862 and served as such for one term.
He is a member of the Baptist church at Deer Park, and is a highly respected citizen of the township in which he
has lived for so many years.
