Isaac H. Bennett, residing on section 10, was born June 30, 1835, on the same farm on which his father was born, in Litchfield County, Conn., and is a son of William and Sarah (Bronson) Bennett, the father born in 1809. His parents had a family of seven Sons and one daughter. After coming to this county, in 1852, they first settled on section 10 where the mother now resides, and where the father died March 22, 1868. The father first came alone to La Salle County in 1851 and purchased the land before alluded to, also 120 acres from Ira Peck, 160 from Jonathan Reed, and twenty acres more in Deer Park Township, besides 140 acres in Farm Ridge Township; then returned to Connecticut, and brought his family here in 1852. Isaac H. was seventeen years old when he came to this county, where he lived with his father till of age. He then commenced farming for himself, on land rented from his father. His first purchase of land was on section 11 where he lived four years; then sold, and bought forty acres from his father on the same section, and after residing on this land about two years sold it and bought 160 acres of partially improved land in Iowa, living there six months. He then returned to La Salle County and bought eighty acres of timber land on section 15, but instead of living on this land he rented his present farm. from his father which he bought in 1868, the farm at that time containing but ninety eight acres. He now has 155 acres on section 10, and also owns twenty six acres on section 15. He was married Dec. 21, 1856, to Annie A. Reed, a daughter of Jonathan and Desire (Page) Reed, the father born Jan. 22, 1795, in Sharon, Conn., and the mother born in Delaware County. N. Y.. Aug. 19, 1798. To Mr. and Mrs. Bennett have been born six children- William Ralph, born Oct. 31, 1857, married Belle A. Follett, and is living on the same farm as his father; a son died aged two days; Charles F., born May 17, 1862, died Oct. 6, 1863; Arthur E., born July 11, 1865, living at home; Anna C., born May 17, 1870, died Jan. 17, 1873; George Milton, born Feb. 17. 1874, living at home. In politics Mr. Bennett is a Republican. In religious faith the family are Adventists. Mr. Reed, father of Mrs. Bennett, came to this county May 10. 1848, and first settled on section 11, this township. He was married in Salisbury, Conn., in 1819, and had a family of two children, Annie A., born July 13, 1836, wife of our subject, and George, now living in St. Paul, Minn. Mr. Reed died Jan. 17, 1870.
