HENRY ZIMMER, dealer in general merchandise, and Postmaster, came to Chicago in 1848, where he attended school
three years. He moved to Blue Island in 1851 and clerked in a store until 1854. April 1, 1855, he opened a general
store at Homewood, and taking charge of the post office in 1863. November 10, 1832, he was born in Hesse-Darmastadt.
Germany, and in 1847 he came with his parents to the United States, who lived a year in Buffalo, N. Y., thence
removing to Chicago. In 1857 Mr. Zimmer married Miss Julia Klein, of same place. They have seven children - Elizabeth,
Mary J., Henrietta, Henry F., Ida J., John W. and Minnie. They are members of the Evangelical Lntheran Church of
Homeweod. He has served as Justice of the Peace, Town Clerk and Collector of Taxes.
