PETER THORSEN, store keeper and brick manufacturer, is a native of Denmark. He served with credit in the war
between Prussia and Denmark, after which, in 1864, he came to the United States. He worked at brick making till
1871, when he established his brick yard in Niles, which has been in successful operation ever since. Many of the
buildings in the suburban towns of Evanston, Park Ridge, Niles Centre, etc., are built of his brick, as are also
the Cook County Asylum and Infirmary. In 1878 he built a large brick store, 36x72. in Niles, and has carried on
a good business in dry goods and groceries ever since. His brick yard turns out annually about 2,000,000 bricks.
Mr. Thorsen has held various offices, as Commissioner of Highways and school director, and is at present Postmaster
at Niles and County Toll road Inspector.
