EDWARD H. SUTHERLAND, farmer, P. O. Palatine, was born in Palatine in 1844, son of Mason and Nancy Sutherland, his father a native of Vermont, and his mother of New Hampshire. They came to Cook County in 1838. His father located his farm iu 1839, and in 1843, married: they had six children, four now living - Edward H., Maria, Emma and Charles M. In 1862 his father enlisted in Company E, 113th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, was commissioned Captain of the company, and died in the field, January, 1863. The subject of this sketch enlisted in Company E, 113th Illiuois Volunteers, in 1864. and served until the close of the war. Two months after his enlistment he was detailed in the ordnance department, where he served the remainder of the time. After the war he engaged iofarming until 1874, when he went to Colorado, where he was engaged in mining and other pursnits until 1881. when he returned to Palatine and located on the old homestead. He was married in 1864 to Miss Lucy Hutchins; they have had two children - Harry and Albert.
