MICHAEL SHERMAN, farmer, P. 0. Orland, was born in England in 1833, son of Matthew and Mary Sherman. He came to Cook County in 1845 with his sister Ann, and remained in Chicago until March of the following year, when he came to Orland Township, where he has since resided. Mr. Sherman engaged in farm labor until 1864, when he purchased a farm, and has followed farming from that time. He owns eighty acres. In 1864 he was married to Miss Alice Smith, daughter of William and Dorca Smith. They have four children - Henry, James, Frank and George. Mr. Sherman served as school director for six years. Mrs. Sheman's parents were early settlers of Cook County; they now reside in Lee County.
