JOHN M. SEMMELHAACK, general merchant, is a native of Germany. where he was horn in 1846. He immigrated to the
United States in 1869. locating first in Chicago, where he followed the trade of a carpenter. In 1875 he moved
to Thornton, and settled at Commings Corners, where he worked at his trade tilL 1883, when he bought out the general
store of George A. Hart, in which business he is still engaged. He was married in 1873 to Mary Oberlin, by whom
he had one daughter. His wife dying. he was married again, in 1878, to Mary Killner, by whom he has three cbildren,
Frank, Clara and Louisa. He also owns a large public hall, which he has lately built, at Cummings Corners, and
is a member of the Lutheran Church.
