KLING, JOHN ADAM. - Born at Darmstadt, Germany, Nov. 4, 1838. Son of Martin and Elizabeth Kling. His parents were German. Subject of sketch was educated in his native town. He came to Chicago June i8, 1867. Is a mechanic and an expert in the manufacture of sewing machines, and besides has a thorough knowledge of locomotives and printing presses. On coming to Chicago in 1867 he started the first sewing machine office in the northwestern Portion of the city. He is a mernber of the German Aid Society and of the German Mutual Benefit Association. Mr. Kling was married Jan. 25, 1866, to Elizabeth Ewald, and has had four children, only one of whom, Charles L., is now living.
