CHRISTIAN EBINGER was born in Wurtemberg, Germany, in 1812, in which city he had charge for a number of years of the flower garden of King William, of Wurtemberg. He immigrated to America in l831,and lived one year in Detroit, where he was married to Miss Barbara Rehly. In 1832 he came to Chicago, and in 1834 to Dutchman’s Point, where with the exception of the rude log shanty built by Schadiger and Perren. he built the first house. This house was a log one. 24x14 feet, one story high. Here he carried on his farm and was a local preacher of the German Evangelical Association, preaching however only occasionally, and then mostly for churches temporarily destitute of a pastor. He died in 1879. His widow still lives. They have had seven children— Christian, Henry. Margaret, Sarah, Eliza. Caroline and William.
