DURBOROW, ALLAN CATHCART, JR. - Born at Philadelphia, Pa., November to, 1857. Came west with his parents at four years of age, locating at Williamsport, Indiana, and there began his education. He later entered the preparatory department of the Wabash College at Crawfordsville, and from there went to the State University of Indiana at Bloomington, graduating from that institution in 1877. Going to Indianapolis he resided there for two years and then came to Chicago, since which time this city has been his home. He at once became engaged in business and early took an active part in local politics, affiliating with the democratic party. Though he was frequently of fered office he never accept! ed one until elected to the 52nd congress from the third district of Illinois, In this contest he defeated the Hon. William & Mason, receiving 21,069 votes against Mr Mason's 17,933, and was re-elected from the same district two years later by the enormous majority of 11,260 votes., He is about the youngest congressman in the house of representatives, but he has been extremely active in the interests of his constituents. Having a natural pride in the city of his adoption he was in the front rank of the hard workers to make the Columbian Exposition a credit not only to Chicago but to the nation, He lent his aid and influence in the house to every committee which had been sent to Washington to obtain any concessions, and these committees one and all recognized the benefit of his assistance.
