DOSE, CHARLES P. - Born in Germany, Feb. 24, 1843. Son of John and Dorothea Dose. His parents were of German
nationality and lived in Meeklenburg, where the subject of this sketch attended school, receiving an academic education.
Before coming to America he taught in a German high school near Hamburg. In the fall of 1865 he came to this country,
landing in Chicago in November of that year. His first occupation in this city was that of teaching music but in
1867 was engaged in the dry goods business, which he relinquished in 1872, and began handling real estate, He makes
a specialty of subdivisions and is the owner and controller of several large tracts on the West side. He very recently
built the Chicago Natatorium on Milwaukee avenue, and is its principal owner, He took an active part in the erection
of the Schiller building, and is one of the directors of the company, and agent of the building. He is a member
of the Orpheus Maennerchor, of the German Press Club of the Central Turn-Verein and Deutsche Gesellschtft In 1866
Mr. Dose married Miss Louisa Oberg, of Chicago, and has three children, Charles C., Clara L. and Olga, the former
being his assistant in business.
