JOHN E. BEST. M. D.. was born in McHenry County. Ill., in 1843. son of Michael anti Hannah Best. in 1862 he
enlisted in Company E. 95th Illinois Infantry, and served one year. when he was discharged for disability. He began
the study of medicine in 1866 with Dr. T. W. Stull of Marengo. and continued it during the years 1868 and 1869
with Dr. H. W. Richardson. of Woodstock. Its entered Rush Medical College in 1868, and graduated from that institution
in 1870. In March of the latter year he located at Arlington Heights and entered upon his practice. It has been
his aim to attain a higher standard for his profession. and by his efforts, with the co-operation of neighboring
physicians. he has been successfnl in gaining a proper respect for the profession throughout the community, and
the respect of his professional brethren. During the winter of 1882-83 he took a course of lectures at the Bellevue
College, New York City, where he devoted the time to special branches, including surgery, microscopy and laryngoscophy.
He is a member of the Chicago and Illinois State medical societies.
