ABBEY, CHARLES PETERS. - Born in Chicago, May 23, 1865. Son of Frederick J. and Mary L. Abbey (nee Peters);
father an Englishman; mother, American of New York ancestry. Paternal grandfather served in British army at Waterloo;
maternal great grandfather was prominent in anti-manorial agitation in New York against the Van Rensselaers, and
was elected to the New York legisJature on that issue; father was a member of the Ellsworih Zouaves, and afterwards
lieutenant in the 37th Ill. Volunteers; subject educated in Chicago schools, University of Chicago, Northwestern
University, and Chicago College of Law; was admitted to the bar June, 1891; is a member of the Centennial Baptist
church, the Ashland Club, and several college Greek letter societies; in politics a republican; has high professional
and social standing.
