Bethel, or Bethel City, was once a little trading center in the southern part of Clay Township, about two miles
west of Bussey. At one time it had a general store that supplied the people of the surrounding country, but after
the building of the railroads the greater portion of the trade was diverted to the new towns that sprang up along
the railroad. All that is left of Bethel City is the old church and cemetery. No plat of the town was ever filed
with the county recorder.
