J. D. Misbach, a farmer residing on section 36, Sumner township, was born in the house where he is now living
on the 28th of June, 1874, of the marriage of Lorenz and Hannah (Cafferty) Misbach, whose record appears elsewhere
in this work. He was reared upon the homestead and in the acquirement of his education attended the district schools.
He continued to reside with his parents and farmed the homestead in connection with his father, gradually taking
over more and more of the responsibility in its operation. Since the father's removal to Williamsburg our subject
has had the entire management of the farm work and has not only received gratifying financial returns from his
labors but has also kept the place in the high state of development to which his father brought it. He owns an
eighty acre tract adjoining the homestead and eighty acres in Troy township, but he rents the latter tract, although
he operates the adjoining eighty acres in addition to the home farm.
On the 26th of February, 1902, Mr. Misbach married Miss Amelia Wiese. of Marengo, a daughter of the late Henry
Wiese, an early settler of Sumner township. Mr. and Mrs. Misbach have five children: Wiese L., Wanda A., Ila L.,
Dorothy L and Myron L.
Mr. Misbach is stanch in his support of the republican party at the polls and for fifteen years has been a member
of the board of township trustees. Both he and his wife are members of the Congregational church of Genoa Bluff
and he is serving as clerk of the church. He believes thoroughly in the value of farmers' organizations and assisted
in organizing the Farmers Club, of which he is president. He is a director of the Peoples Savings Bank of Marengo
and is recognized as a man of sound business judgment. He has managed his individual affairs well and has gained
a competence. His entire life has been passed in Sumner township and the fact that those who know him best are
his sincerest friends is proof of his genuine personal worth.
