William Meyer, Jr., is engaged in general farming in Lincoln township, where he owns and cultivates one hundred
and sixty acres of rich and productive land. He was born in Germany, in February, 1876, and there spent the first
seventeen years of his life, after which he accompanied his parents on their emigration to the new world. The father
is now living on a farm which adjoins the home of his son and is a well known agriculturist of the community.
William Meyer, Jr., was educated in the schools of Germany and was twenty six years of age when on the 10th of
August, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Mahnke, who was born at Sittensen, Germany, December 19,
1875. Her parents, John and Susanna (Schlesselmann) Mahnke, were also natives of Germany, where they spent their
entire lives, the father pasing away in 1913, while the mother died in 1891. Their daughter, Mrs. Meyer, came alone
to the United States in 1902 and made her way to Iowa county. She is the eldest of a family of five children, the
others being: Susanna, the wife of John Hoyns, who resides in Germany; Anna, who married Emil Hoeppner, of Davenport,
Iowa; Mary, the wife of Henry Heins, a resident farmer of Nebraska; and John, who lives in Germany. To Mr. and
Mrs. Meyer have been born five children: Rudolph, whose natal day was May 18, 1903; George, born August 1, 1904;
Emma, November 27, 1907; Adella, November 6, 1910; and Elsie, January 20, 1915.
Mr. and Mrs. Meyer are members of the German Lutheran church and they are well known in the community where they
reside, for their various good traits of heart and mind have gained for them the warm regard of those with whom
they have come in contact. In his political views Mr. Meyer is a republican but he does not aspire to public office,
preferring to concentrate his energies upon his farm work, which is capably conducted and is bringing to him gratifying
