M. FURGESON.
During the past eleven years M. Furgeson has been actively and successfully engaged in business at Marengo as the proprietor of a well appointed furniture and undertaking establishment. His birth occurred in De Kalb county, Illinois, on the 5th of June, 1875, his parents being Dallas and Emma (Hill) Furgeson, the former a native of Canada and the latter of De Kalb county, Illinois. Dallas Furgeson now makes his home in Indiana, but his wife is deceased, having passed away in 1890. To them were born three children, namely: the subject of this review; Elmer M., who is a resident of Chicago; and Lawrence, who is deceased.

M. Furgeson obtained his education in the schools of Webster City, Iowa, and subsequently followed the profession of teaching for three years, imparting clearly and readily to others the knowledge that he had acquired. He then volunteered for service in the Spanish-American war, joining Company I of the Fifty fourth Regiment. When honorably discharged from military duty he secured a position at Clarinda, Iowa, where he remained until 1902 and then came to Marengo. The following year he purchased the establishment of J. J. Mahoney and embarked in the furniture and undertaking business, which. he has conducted continuously and successfully since. In both branches he is accorded a liberal and well merited patronage, being widely recognized as a business man of enterprise, ability and unassailable integrity.

On the 17th of April, 1903, Mr. Furgeson was united in marriage to Miss Rose E. Haiste, a native of Iowa township, Iowa county, Iowa, and a daughter of Adam and Elizabeth (Wagner) Haiste, both of whom are deceased. Our subject and his wife have one son, Stanley M., who is attending school. Mr. Furgeson gained a wide and favorable acquaintance in Marengo and Iowa county during the period of his residence here and enjoys an enviable reputation as a substantial and representative business man as well as an esteemed citizen of the community.
