HENRY W. SHAW, an American humorist who became celebrated under the nun-de-plume of "Josh Billings,"
gained his fame from the Witticism of his writing, and peculiar eccentricity of style and spelling. He was born
at Lanesborough, Massachusetts, in 1818. For twenty five years he lived in different parts of the western states,

His death occurred October 14, 1885, at Monterey, California.
