AUGUSTUS C. TILLMAN, JR.
Augustus C. Tillman, Jr., an influential and progressive young business man of Suisun, was born there on the 23d
of January, 1900, and is a son of A. C. and Lottie (Chadbourne) Tillman, the former of whom came to Suisun as a
boy of fourteen years. He has always been connetted with the printing and publishing business and is at present
the editor and publisher of the Solano County Courier, at Suisun. The mother is a native of the Suisun valley,
where she has always resided.
Augustus C. Tillman, Jr., was educated in the public and high schools of Suisun, graduating from the latter in
1918. On August 21 of that year he enlisted in the United States army at St. Mary's College, for three months,
and was honorably discharged on the following 7th of December. He then obtained employment with the Pacific Gas
& Electric Company, with which he remained about eight months, after which he was for a short time employed
in electrical work by the Solano Supply & Construction Company. On February 1, 1920, Mr. Tillman entered into
a business partnership with A. Hilcorn, and on the 1st of June, 1920, F. Hoxie became our subject's partner, the
firm name being changed to that of Hoxie & Tillman. They conducted the enterprise together until the death
of Mr. Hoxie on February 1, 1925, since which time Mr. Tillman has continued the business alone, being an extensive
dealer in hay and grain. He is courteous and accommodating in his relations with the buying public and is well
patronized. He is a member of the American Legion and of the Native Sons of the Golden West. Mr. Tillman has always
taken a deep interest in the affairs of his community and is now serving acceptably as chief of the fire department.
He is a lover of outdoor life, duck hunting being one of his favorite diversions. His has been a consistent career,
characterized by honesty, square dealing and enterprising methods.
