JOHN M. RODGERS.
John M. Rodgers, proprietor of a well equipped bottling works at Vallejo, doing business there as the Rodgers Bottling Company, one of the well established business men of that city, is a native son of California and all his life has been spent in this state, a resident of Vallejo for the past quarter of a century. Mr. Rodgers was born on a ranch in the immediate vicinity of Petaluma in the neighboring county of Sonoma, April 18, 1880, and is a son of Manuel P. and Rose (Paula) Rodgers, the latter of whom is still living. She came to California from the Azores with her parents when but a child. The late Manuel P. Rodgers came to California in 1869.

Reared on the home farm in Sonoma county, John M. Rodgers received his schooling in the schools of the Wilson district of Petaluma and remained on the farm until he attained his majority, in which year (1901) he became engaged in business at Vallejo, where he ever since has made his home. Upon locating at Vallejo Mr. Rodgers opened a grocery store and presently bought the local ice plant, carrying on the latter for six years or more or until he sold out to the National Ice Company. He carried on his grocery business, at 625 Mann street, until in 1917, when he disposed of the same and on April 18, 1918, bought the plant of the Empire Soda Works on Margin street and has since been quite successfully engaged in the bottling business, now carrying on as the Rodgers Bottling Company. Upon taking over this business Mr. Rodgers rehabilitated the plant, put in new and modern machinery and had developed quite a business when on July 11, 1919, the plant was destroyed by fire. Nothing daunted by this setback to his enterprise he erected at once a new and better plant at 1243 Florida street and is now carrying on the business there, gradually extending the same as the demand for his popular products grows. The Rodgers plant manufactures the locally celebrated "Dimples" brand of carbonated waters in no fewer than twelve distinct flavors and has created a wide demand for this product throughout Solano, Napa and adjacent counties.

John M. Rogers married Miss Florence Siqueira, a member of one of the well established Portuguese families here, and they have three children, Clifford, Lionel and Averil. The Rodgerses are members of the Roman Catholic church and Mr. Rodgers is an active member of the local council of the Knights of Columbus. In their political views, they align themselves with the democratic party. Mr. Rodgers also is a member of the popular Portuguese society U. P. E. C. and has long taken an active interest in the affairs of the same.
