J. HARRY MOORE.
J. Harry Moore is one of Vallejo's well established merchants, being the proprietor of the Vallejo and the Palace
meat markets, as well as of a fully equipped slaughter house and packing plant at Benicia. He was born on a farm
two miles east of Ash Grove in Greene county, Missouri, in 1888, and is a son of James P. and Mildred (Martin)
Moore, who came to California with their family in 1901 and established their home in Fresno, later becoming residents
of Visalia.
J. Harry Moore was about thirteen years of age when he came to California, and he finished his education in the
Visalia high school. He then became employed in a butcher shop there, conducted by the Pioneer Meat Company, and
here he became thoroughly familiar with the details of the retail meat business. Thus qualified to work at the
trade, he started out as a journeyman and for some years thereafter worked in various cities of the state, but
in 1915 he settled at Vallejo, where he has since had his home. For six years after taking up his residence in
Vallejo Mr. Moore was employed in the retail meat market of the Herbert brothers, and he then bought a half interest
in the Frisco market. A year later he disposed of that interest and opened a market of his own, the Virginia market,
at No. 304 Virginia street. Two years later he bought the Vallejo market at No. 410 Georgia street and not long
afterward expanded his business by opening the Palace market and establishing a slaughter house and packing plant
at Benicia His meats are of the highest grade, being state inspected, and he enjoys an excellent custom.
Mr. Moore was united in marriage to Miss Mildred Price, a native daughter of California, born at Chico, and they
have one child, Jack Richard. Mr. Moore is a member of the Kiwanis Club and is also affiliated with the local lodge
of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and with the local tribe of the Improved Order of Red Men.
