CHARLES E. MAYFIELD.
Charles E. Mayfield, engaged in the mercantile business at Suisun and also associated with the firm of Hooper & Mayfield, Suisun, a member of the board of supervisors for Solano county, formerly and for years a member of the board of trustees of the town of Suisun and long recognized as one of the most influential factors in the development of the general interests of that flourishing little city, is a native son of California and all his life has been spent in this state, a resident of Suisun for nearly thirty years. Mr. Mayfield was born at Petaluma in the neighboring county of Sonoma on May 16, 1878, and is a son of William A. and Jennie (Swift) Mayfield, the former of whom also was born in California, a son of A. J. Mayfield, and the latter in the city of Portland, Oregon.

By reason of various changes of residence made by his parents during the time of his youth, Charles E. Mayfield's schooling was had in the schools of Collinsville in Solano county, Santa Rosa in Sonoma county and the city of San Francisco. For a time as a young man he followed ranching in the Montezuma hills and Suisun valley and then in 1898, when twenty years of age, became a resident of Suisun, where he became engaged in the mercantile business and has ever since been engaged in that line, one of the oldest merchants in continuous service in that city. In addition to his mercantile interests Mr. Mayfield has other interests of a substantial character and is the owner of the Mayfield Hotel block, which he built in 1910. For sixteen years (1906-1922) Mr. Mayfield rendered_ valuable public service as a member of the board of trustees of the town of Suisun, a part of that time serving as chairman of the board (mayor), and upon his retirement was made the subject of an appreciative resolution adopted by the board as a deserved tribute to his long, faithful and valuable service in behalf of the municipality. In 1922 he was elected to represent his district on the board of county supervisors and is thus now serving in that important public capacity. For years Mr. Mayfield has been one of this region's most ardent and effective advocates of the cause of good roads and has rendered useful service in this important behalf. By reason of his long residence here and his thorough familiarity with local conditions he is able to bring to his service on the board of supervisors a measure of intelligent and well informed direction that has been found to be of special value in the administration of county affairs. In addition to his commercial and realty interests above referred to, Mr. Mayfield has other interests of a substantial character and is a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Suisun.

In 1901, in San Francisco, C. E. Mayfield was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Dunn, who was born in that city, daughter of Arthur R. Dunn, and they have four children, two daughters, Charlotte and Beatrice, and two sons, Charles and Stewart Mayfield. Mr. Mayfield is a Knight Templar Mason and a noble of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine, affiliated with the local lodge and the local commandery at Suisun and with the temple (Ben Ali) at Sacramento. He also is a member of the Olympic Club at San Francisco.
