WILLIAM GOTT.
The life of William Gott, the able and enterprising manager of the Solano Hog Company of Benicia has been such as to elicit just praise from those who know him best, owing to the fact that he has always been true to the trusts reposed in him and has been upright in his dealings with his fellowmen, at the same time lending his support to the advancement of any cause looking to the welfare of the community at large. Mr. Gott was born in Gottville, California, on the 11th day of August, 1882, and is the son of W. N. and Elizabeth (Hughes) Gott. The father came to California in his boyhood days from his home in Augusta, Maine, and here he engaged in farming and ranching. He was successful and attained considerable prominence in his community, having served as postmaster for thirty five years. He is now retired and is living in Oakland. His wife was born and reared in this state.

William Gott attended the public schools but did not complete the full course, gaining the remainder of his education in the school of experience and hard knocks. He remained on his father's farm until 1903, when he went to work as a logger, a vocation he followed until 1906. In 1907 he entered the United States forestry service, in which he continued until 1917, followed by one year as fish and game warden. In 1918 Mr. Gott entered the employ of the Western Sheep Company as foreman on the Siskiyou range and the following year acted as foreman on the Murnell ranch in Colusa county, where he remained until 1924, when he became manager for the Solano Hog Company. This company was organized on August 1, 1924, and is already realizing success in its venture, buying and fattening stock for the market. Five men are employed and the business of the new company is increasing at a gratifying rate, a plant now being located at Vallejo. Mr. Gott has shown himself well qualified as manager, possessing good business ability, sound judgment and wise discrimination.

Mr. Gott married Miss Viola Tyrell, who died on October 1, 1922, and to them were born the following children: Harold Melvin, Raymond Oscar, Alice, Willard Leroy, Lorna, Harriet, Gladys and Eldred. Mr. Gott has always given his support to the republican party. He is affiliated with the Woodmen of the World, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Knights of Pythias.
