Charles F. Humphrey, who stands in the front rank of the attorneys of San Francisco, and whose offices are situated
in suite 421 at 315 Montgomery street, is a native of Belleville, Kansas, where his birth occurred November 23,
1871. He is a son of James Cobin and Anna S. (Counter) Humphrey.
After completing his common school education, Mr. Humphrey took up the study of his chosen profession at the University
of Kansas, from which he received his degree of Bachelor of Laws in the year 1894. In 1895, he came to San Francisco,
where he entered upon general practice, and has so continued to date with signal success. He has acquired a clientele
of most satisfying proportions, and holds a position of respect before the local bar. He is a member of the San
Francisco, the California State, and the American Bar Associations, and is also an honorary member of the Theta
Delta Theta legal fraternity. Of late he has been giving his ranches in California and plantation in the Philippine
Islands much of his time.
On January 16, 1899, Mr. Humphrey was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Warren, who was born in England. To
their union have been born two sons, James Warren and John Charles. The attractive family home of the Humphreys
is situated on the Santa Cruz road near Pescadero, California, and is known as the Cascade ranch.
In fraternal affairs, Mr. Humphrey holds life memberships in the thirty second degree of Masonry, Mystic Shrine,
California Commandery No. 1, Knights Templar; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and is past patron of the
Order of the Eastern Star. His clubs are the Bohemian, the Commonwealth and the Olympic. His political support
has been accorded to the republican party. The civic interests of San Francisco have always been assured of his
cooperation and loyalty, and he is in every way considered a representative citizen of the community.
