W. C. VOGEL.
The career of W. C. Vogel has been characterized by hard and persistent toil, but he has been faithful in the performance of every task to which he has applied himself, and the success which has come to him has been well earned. He is a native son of California, and was born in Suisun, Solano county, on the 4th of October, 1888. His father, Charles Vogel, who is a native of Maryland, is now a prominent and successful fruit grower in Rockville, Solano county.

W. C. Vogel attended the public schools at Rockville and at the age of fourteen years started to work on his father's ranch, remaining there until the entrance of the United States into the World war, when he enlisted for service, joining the Three Hundred and Sixty third Regiment of Infantry, which became a part of the "Fighting Ninety first" Division. Mr. Vogel was detailed as a sniper and served throughout the remainder of the war, being with the Ninety first Division in all of its engagements. On his return to civil life he located in Fairfield, Solano county, where in 1919 he engaged in the garage business. Later he went to Vallejo and entered into a partnership with Mr. Glikbarg, and they operated the Acme garage and Ford agency for a time. In 1923 Mr. Vogel came to St. Helena and opened a garage, securing also the Ford agency, and since that time he has been on the highway to success. He is a good business man, of sound judgment and keen sagacity and is energetically developing his enterprise.

Mr. Vogel is a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, in St. Helena, and also belongs to the consistory of Scottish Rite Masons in Oakland and to Ben Ali temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, at Sacramento, as well as to the American Legion and to the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks at Vallejo. He was a director of the St. Helena Chamber of Commerce in 1924. Mr. Vogel was married to Miss Ruby P. Phillips, who was born in Vacaville, and they are the parents of a daughter, Nancy Jane.
