A. H. THOMSON.
The name of A. H. Thomson, proprietor of the Napa Business College and the Thomson Business School, Consolidated,
is familiar to the people of Napa county, who know him as a man of high attainments and practical ability as an
educator. Educational service has been Mr. Thomson's life work and he has achieved a large measure of success in
his profession because he has worked for it persistently and in channels of honest endeavor. His prestige in business
educational circles stands in evidence of his ability and serves as a voucher for intrinsic worth of character.
He has directed his efforts along legitimate courses and his career has been based on the wise assumption that
nothing save industry, perserverance, sturdy integrity and fidelity to duty will lead to eventual success.
A. H. Thomson is a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, where he was reared and educated. Practically his entire life
has been devoted to educational activities, in which his record is an enviable one. He was formerly connected with
the Pitman Metropolitan Business College in London, England, and about twenty five years ago he came to America
to take charge of the commercial department in the Montreal (Canada) high school. Later he was with Heald's Business
College in San Francisco, conducted a business college of his own in San Luis Obispo and taught in the University
of the Pacific, at Santa Clara. About fifteen years ago Mr. Thomson came to Napa to accept the position of superintendent
of the commercial department of the Napa high school, a position he held for six years, at the end of which time
he founded the Thomson Business School. He was successful in this venture and later acquired control of the Napa.
Business College, which he consolidated with his own school, and he has been eminently successful in the operation
of the joint institution. The courses taught are business, higher accountancy, civil service, stenographic, secretarial,
technical, special and evening classes. Mr. Thomson is a progressive and enterprising business man as well as an
able educator and has placed the school on a permanent and substantial basis as one of Napa's finest educational
institutions. He holds the degree of F. C. A. in the national organization of Chartered Accountants and is a recognized
authority on practical accountancy. He is a member of the Fidelity Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and was secretary
of the same during a period of five years. His talented wife, Florence E. Fuller, daughter of E. N. Fuller, widely
known newspaper publisher passed away some years ago. Personally, Mr. Thomson possesses to a marked degree the
qualities which commend a man to the favorable opinion of his fellow men and he has won a high place in the esteem
and confidence of all who know him.
