JOHN ROBERTSON, M. D., D. D. S.
Dr. John Robertson of Napa is a man whose life has become an essential part of the history of Napa, for during
the period of his residence here he has exerted a beneficial influence in the community. Because of his professional
skill and success, as well as for his fine personal character and friendly manner, he has long enjoyed to the highest
degree the confidence and esteem of the entire community. Dr. Robertson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
on the 30th day of January, 1859, and is the son of Alexander and Emma (Crees) Robertson, members of old families
in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and both now deceased.
John Robertson received his elementary education in the public schools and private classes. In time he, entered
the College of Physicians and Surgeons in San Francisco and was there graduated from both the medical and dental
departments in 1899, receiving the degrees of Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Surgery, though he has never
practiced medicine, confining his professional efforts to the practice of dentistry. He first practiced in San
Francisco and has been in .Napa since 1905. He had wisely taken a fine program of work and study leading up to
his final course, having started in as an apprentice in the manufacturing of dental supplies, at which he worked
for fourteen years, thoroughly learning the mechanical end of dentistry, and had then studied in the State University.
He is thus a man of thorough and exact information in all phases of his profession, and his skill and ability as
a dentist has been ample justification for his long preparation. He worked his own way through college and is deserving
of great credit for the painstaking methods he pursued in attaining the goal of his ambition. He has been in practice
here longer than any of his contemporaries and through all these years he has enjoyed a large and representative
practice, enjoying the fullest measure of popular confidence and regard.
Doctor Robertson married Miss Sarah Murray, who also was born and reared in Pennsylvania, and they are the parents
of three children: Jack Robertson, an attorney in Oakland, California; Dr. Frank Robertson, a dentist in Napa,
and Miss Jeane Robertson, who remains at home. Politically, Doctor Robertson has leaned to the progressive branch
of the republican party and has always taken a deep interest in public affairs, earnestly cooperating with his
fellow citizens in all movements for the betterment of the community along all legitimate lines. The Doctor is
affiliated with the Masonic Order, a member of Yount Lodge No. 30, of Napa.
