BERT M. NORTON.
Bert M. Norton enjoys the distinction of being the longest established automobile dealer in Napa, and during the
years of his identification with this line of business here he has always enjoyed the highest measure of confidence
and esteem on the part of the public.
Mr. Norton is a native of Napa and was born on the 26th of January, 1878, a son of A. W. and Frances (Morton) Norton,
further reference to whom will be found on other pages of this work. Mr. Norton attended Napa College and completed
his education in the University of Southern California. During the ensuing five years he worked in the tannery
in Napa, after which, in 1900, he engaged in the automobile business, in which he was continued uninterruptedly
since. For fourteen years he was the agent for the Buick car, but for the past two years he has handled the Oakland,
and now also has the Rickenbacker, both of which he has found to be good sellers and durable and reliable cars.
His territory as general agent covers Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties, in all of which he has a number of sub
agencies, and he has enjoyed a fine and steadily increasing business, being now numbered among the leading automobile
dealers in this part of the state.
On October 11, 1899, at Ashland, Oregon, Mr. Norton was married to Miss Annah Russell, who was born at Lonoke,
Arkansas, June 23, 1878, a daughter of Rev. A. M. and Martha Madella (Robison) Russell, the former a native of
Nashville, Tennessee, and the latter of Lonoke, Arkansas, and both of whom are now deceased. The father was a veteran
of the Civil war. Mr. and Mrs. Norton have become the parents of the following children: Russell, Margaret, Beverly
and B. R. Norton, who was married to Violet Thayer and resides at No. 4210 Stockton boulevard, Sacramento, California.
Politically Mr. Norton gives his support to the republican party and is intelligently interested in public affairs,
particularly those relating to the prosperity and welfare of his own state and community. Fraternally he is a member
of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. Mr. Norton is a man of genial and friendly disposition, and his splendid
character and his success as a business man have won for him the unbounded confidence and regard of all who have
come in contact with him, in either a business or a social way.
