FULTON I. MATHER, D. D. S.
Dr. Fulton I. Mather, a skillful and favorably known dentist of St. Helena, was born in that city on the 3d of December, 1898, and is a son of E. W. and Ida Ann (Fulton) Mather, the former 'a native of Boone county, Iowa, and the latter of St. Helena, where both still reside, being highly respected and esteemed by all who know them. The mother is a daughter of David Fulton, now deceased, who was a pioneer of Napa county. He was a native of Pennsylvania and crossed the plains, with ox teams, in the '50s, coming to the Napa valley, in which at that time there were only seven houses. He was one of the first vineyardists and wine makers in this locality, and the Fuller brandies gained a national reputation. His ranch extended from the river to the city limits, and after his death his daughter, Mrs. Mather, deeded a strip of land to the city, it now being called Fulton avenue. E. W. Mather is a vineyardist on the old Fulton ranch and has twenty acres in vineyard and prunes. He is a man of prominence and influence in his community, and he is a member of the Lodi Farm Center. To him and his wife were born three children: Fulton I. and Edgar C., twins; and Mrs. F. W. Beard, of Yountville, Napa county.

Fulton I. Mather received his elementary education in the public schools of St. Helena and then entered the dental department of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, in San Francisco, from which he was graduated in 1923, with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery, and he has since been engaged in the active practice of his profession in St. Helena. In 1924 Dr. Mather took a postgraduate course at the University of California. He has abundantly demonstrated his skill and ability and is enjoying a steadily increasing practice. Fraternally Dr. Mather is a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, in which he has attained the degree of the Royal Arch; the Order of the Eastern Star, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Improved Order of Red Men. He belongs to the Napa County Dental Society, the California State Dental Society and the American Dental Association, while he also is a member of Psi Omega fraternity and the Trowel Club, both of which are college organizations, the latter being for Masons only. The Doctor was married to Miss Ada E. Chapman, a native of England.
