John Luchini, well known dairyman of Napa, is a sterling son of Switzerland who has by the exercise of persistent
energy and well directed efforts succeeded in gaining an independent position in life. He was born on the 19th
of November, 1878, and is a son of Stephen and Marian Luchini. The father followed farming during his active life,
and he is now deceased, being survived by his widow, who still lives in her native land. John Luchini attended
the public schools of Switzerland, and when he was fifteen years of age he immigrated to the United States. He
arrived here among a strange people, entirely ignorant of the language and with a cash capital of only ten dollars,
but he was rich in ambition and strength of mind and body. He at once sought work among the dairies of this vicinity
and by practicing rigid economy was enabled to save some money. During his first months here he attended night
school in order to gain a knowledge of the English language, and as soon as he was financially able, he started
in the dairy business on his own account.
Beginning modestly, Mr. Luchini applied himself indefatigably to his work and soon had the satisfaction of seeing
his business grow, until now he is milking forty five cows and employs two men to help him. Until 1920 he operated
rented land, and he then bought his present place of twenty seven acres, adjoining the city of Napa. He raises
grass and alfalfa for his dairy stock, and he has recently remodeled his home, which is now very comfortable and
conveniently arranged. He sells his milk in this locality and enjoys a splendid reputation because of his accommodating
ways and his square dealing with his customers.
