C. C. JOHNSON.
One of the best known citizens of St. Helena is C. C. Johnson, city marshal, health officer, constable and deputy
sheriff of Napa county, who has long been a most effective agent in the preservation of law and in the proper observance
of the sanitary laws in this locality. By reason of his faithfulness in the performance of duty and his loyalty
to his community under all conditions, he has long enjoyed an enviable standing among his fellow citizens.
Mr. Johnson was born in Monroe county, Iowa, on the 29th of August, 1878. He secured his education in the public
schools of his native community, and at the age of sixteen years he accompanied his family on their removal to
California. They located first at Santa Rosa, Sonoma county, where he assisted his father in the fruit business
and also was engaged in teaming. In 1902 Mr. Johnson came to St. Helena and did teaming for three years, at the
end of which time he became a member of the police force, where he was retained for nineteen years, proving a most
faithful and efficient officer. Because of his fine record, he was then promoted to the position of city marshal,
in which capacity he is, still serving, rendering a high type of service to the community. He is also health officer
of the city and has been appointed a deputy sheriff of Napa county. He is a man of marked force of character, courageous
and fearless in the performance of duty, and he takes a justifiable pride in the high standard of law observance
which prevails in St. Helena and vicinity.
Mr. Johnson was married to Miss Edith Boyd, a native of California, and they are the parents of four children,
namely: Mrs. Blanche Boshoff, of Westwood, Lassen county, California; Lowell, of San Francisco; Leslie, who is
with the Redwood Lumber Company, at Westwood, this state; and Inga, who is a student in the Napa Business College.
Mr. Johnson is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Woodmen of the World and the Order of Druids.
Because of his fine record, his splendid character and friendly disposition, he has won the confidence and respect
of the citizens of his community.
